CHOIR TOURS

We have organized several highly successful Choir Tours, providing not only accommodations, meals and transportation, but also advance publicity (in multiple languages), media coverage, and logistical and technical venue requirements.
We obtained additional bookings allowing increased exposure with a minimum of added time and expense. A highlight for one choir group was the participation of a local chorus joining in a combined presentation for a segment of the concert.
We also offer sightseeing options including home stays for group members who want to take the fullest advantage of their trip.

Three Special Heritage Areas

Combining traditional culture, architectural heritage and spectacular scenery.

"Southern Bukovina : The Painted Monasteries, Citadels and Crafts'' - No other place in the world holds such a highly developed organic painting system; nowhere else are there frescoes on both interior and exterior walls of churches. The monasteries in Bukovina are now designated UNESCO heritage monuments and have been awarded the prestigious "Pomme d'Or" prize by the International Federation of Writers and Journalists in Tourism. They can undeniably be rated among the greatest Byzantine and Renaissance works of art.

"Maramures County: A Stronghold of European Folk Culture" Wooden Churches, Folk Art in Wood, Icons, Paintings, Textiles, Clothing - Unscathed by collectivization in the 1940s and by systemization in the 1980s, Maramures maintains a unique ethnographic standing. Traditional folk costumes are worn on most Sundays and holidays, with motifs specific to each village.

"Transylvania : Land of Varied Heritage" - An ethnic jigsaw of Romanians, Magyars, Germans, Gypsies and others, formed over the centuries of migration and colonization. Transylvania's towns and villages still reflect the characteristics of the ethnic groups that once dominated them. Most striking of all are the former seats of Saxon power, with their medieval streets, defensive towers and fortified churches as in Sighisoara, followed by the citadels and churches of Brasov and Sibiu as well as smaller Saxon settlements like Biertan.

Cities such as Cluj and Targu Mures reveal the influence of the Austro-Hungarian empire through the baroque architecture whereas Miercurea Ciuc and Sfintu Gheorghe are the cultural centers of the Szekely, an ethnic group closely related to the Magyars. Most Hungarians view Erdely (their name for Transylvania) as a land "stolen" by the Romanians, whom they claim arrived long after the Magyars had settled the area. Romanians assert the opposite: that Transylvania has always been rightfully theirs and that, for centuries, it was the Magyars who practiced discrimination as colonialist overlords. Both groups live together peacefully but can give examples of discrimination, harassment and unfair treatment. Meeting people and hearing their viewpoint provides an insight into "the Balkan problem."

Eco-Agro Interests

"The Danube Delta : One of the World's Last Unspoiled Natural Habitats" - And one of Romania's greatest assets. Every year the Danube deposits seventy million tons of alluvium into the delta, a vast area of reeds and shifting land, which provides a unique habitat for over three hundred species of birds (many of them found nowhere else in Europe), as well as a host of other creatures. A wilderness paradise for bird-watching, fishing and enjoying nature.

Visit farms and rural villages.
Travel by horseback or on foot.

Special Interests

"The Royal Legacy and The Golden Age of Romania" - Peles Castle, Queen Marie's homes [Pelisor, Bran and Cotroceni in Romania, and Balcic (in Bulgaria)] and Mansions of the Upper Class - Mogosoaia, Casa Melik, Casa Constantin Dissescu, Palatul Sutu, Casa Romanit, Casa Monteoru, Casa Lens-Vernescu, Palatul Ghica, Palatul Cantacuzina, Casa-Muzeu Zambaccian - An architectural banquet provided by Kings, Queens, Princes and noblemen whose wealth, power and style bequeathed a legacy of beauty, diversity and revolution.

"Dracula - with or without Hollywood" - Princely Court in Bucharest, Princely Court in Targoviste, The Tower of Vlad the Impaler (1906 reconstruction for the first Romanian Exhibition), Castle Poienari in the Arges Valley, birthplace in Sighisoara, grave-site at Snagov. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Pilgrimages

Romania's unique geographic location, enabling a passageway between the orient and the occident, offered a forum where historically divergent cultures met and combined to foster new ideas spawning creative thought which has continued to influence current intellectual activity and institutions in today's highly complex and diverse climate. Many individuals and groups from around the world are discovering that a Pilgrimage to Romania provides them with a rich insight into the origins and influences that have helped shape their current beliefs, interests and organizations.

In order to experience an enriching Pilgrimage, pilgrims need to meet the individuals and groups whose current lives and endeavors invoke their heritage. With the recent political changes and the economic and cultural globalization that is taking place in Eastern Europe, these people often find themselves facing new and difficult challenges. A successful Pilgrimage offers insight into these challenges and the subsequent implications that affect both the daily life and the future of all the people in this area of the world.

Whatever your focus of interest - religious, ethnic, intellectual, artistic - be it singular or multi-faceted, let us help you plan an enriching, insightful and successful Pilgrimage.
